Scorching Day In the GJ

Well I got my Finals finish this week(thank goodness for that) and got a lot of good riding with Justin Rose, Gingers, Forbes (from DU) and myself (powerhouse). I felt like I had really good legs this week. I hit a PR for the 30 min effort(wouldn't you like to know what kind of power that is). We 13hrs in 5 days of training. I am way excited to have a few days off the bike and rest because I am ready to go back to the Poky and do some work and training before heading to Boise to get a new bike and off to Cali for a week. I am also planning to make a quick 4 day trip to Montana to hang out and have a good time with my new favorite Swedish Hottie(Alex coolest girl I have met in a long time). Sorry other ladies it's true!!! Then back to the GJ a week before school starts to get some training done before Las Vegas Race. I will be back in school for 4 days and I leave good thing in don't have class on Friday's this semester. I have also taken over the MSC Cycling website which is going to be a work in progress. I have really started working on the Riders Bios(aka my own so I can find out how to work Html codeing). I will have the thing Pimped out my the end of the break. I can't take all the Prop's for it I'm getting a lot of help from my Uncle Tom.

Camp MSC

Well I have been trying to get Justin Rose down to Grand Junction for awhile now. But now we have set a date and we will be riding Dec 13-19. I know that the MSC team will be putting in the time with us. Justin also said a few of the Denver University guys are interested. If anyone else wants to come you just leave me a comment and we will try to sort out housing for you. NO COST for this camp, besides your food. The weather is nice in Grand Junction so it should be good for us. If you just want to come for a few days too, that's cool. The bigger the group the better.

Training

Well today was my first day on the road bike putting out effort. I did a 30 Min interval at 315 and it was easy, I was told to do 300. So I am an over achiever. I also had a real dick in a Minnie van swerve at me and some of my buddies. We got him to pull over and we called the cops and asked them to send a Police car to our position. After I told the old man where he could stick it and verbally abused him a little sense he almost killed me by his van. The cops showed up. NOT ONE CAR, NOT TWO CARS, NOT THREE CARS, BUT FOUR POLICE CARS, I felt like I was at an EPO deal gone bad with three cyclist and a car there. We both got warnings WHATEVER. I scared that old man for life, with my mouth. But he did give me one dirty look that might stick with me for a few days.

Relaxing

Well the first weekend off of bike racing tell end of January. I was thinking that I was going to be all pumped up for no bike racing but tell you the truth I was missing it a little this weekend. I know my body needs a rest from the bike racing. I rode just a few times this week and was way stocked to be back on my Road bike. I also did a Little riding on a 50cc motorcycle with a 125cc engine in it. That thing has some get up and go for sure. You can put two on it with no problems, well just a lot of alcohol and it's easier to get to on it. I only wrecked on it once luckily in grass because I would of hurt the bike and me badly if I would have been of pavement. Well this week I start my training for next season with some easy riding.

RACING NATIONALS

Wow nationals is such a great time. I was a little disappointed about the officiating from usa cycling. They really had things messed up all weekend long. Well in the short track we started at 8:00 in the morning when it was 30 degrees this really screwed me because you have to be waiting for your spot on the on the front line so you can have a good position. Well I had a great position and had no legs. I ended up 32 out of 100 person field but was really disappointed. I started slow and was building speed but it was already to late. In the XC I had started at the back to stay warm and had a really good day, but my technical skills are no there so I lost tones of time in those sections and lost tones of positions on the down hill. I felt good about my XC even though I got 50th. I also did not wreck at all, finally brought my A game. I also did a lot of super spectator and with Mesa spirit. All weekend long the Mesa riders were wearing little red skirts because we were also going for the SPIRIT award. During the four cross I was wearing my Pink Panther outfit with a pink wig and some goggles. The tail of the Pink Panther became the ........ which popped out of the red skirt and all the ladies could not stop checking it out. The banquet for the cross country awards was the best time for sure. The Mesa team went in drag. We showed up at the banquet and the we got some looks from the others schools. Mesa was the
loudest. It was awesome.

Rain Rain Rain

Well interbike was awesome as always. I got to see some of the boys from the P.O.C. I also got to see Sam lose some money again this year.

In the past week it has been really rainy and the trails have been really muddy. Today it has rained all day and it's is supposed to rain all weekend. Which for me spells out a even shittier time on the Mountain bike. I'm a fair weather racer, cold= no thanks, rainy= no thanks, dirty= no thanks, but put all of those together and thats what our Mesa State College Mountain bike race is going to be like,BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!! Hopefully next week is better because nationals is in 3 weeks. I need all the practice I can get because I suck.

Taking what I can get, she was a little bigger than me but that has never stopped me before

Durango Colorado

short track
Well I had a good start went from 2/3's back in the pack to having a great top 10 into the single track and that's as good as it gets. I went down 4 times and kept on losing places but ended up top 20. Wow I was beat up, 4 wrecks in 30 min, that will take it out of you. Hopefully the XC goes a little better.

XC
Well I had a awesome start agian. Then I wrecked so hard about three miles in, and my mojo was gone. I was pretty much out of the game. I was not pumped to be on the bike.

Glad that weekend is over but i am pumped up to do some more short track.

Pocatello cycling

I want give a big thanks to Rob's(the best shop inPocatello) for sponsoring the ISU Criterium They also are the only shop in Pocatello with employees that ride there bikes ,and help riders out that ride there bikes. I also want to give a big thanks to Senior Iguana's for sponsoring the BAR (best all around rider) compitition. None of this would not of happened with out ICE, and the man behind all the madness RVK!! I think the jersey's are a awesome touch ,and have to give a big thanks to Kris Walker for getting all of that figured out, Jersey's are hard work. I think everyone can agree on this that Sam Krieg, has been a huge inspiration for everyone in Pocatello cycling.

Here is a good pic of Sam!!!!

A relaxing weekend away from test and homework

Well I had a big week of studying in the library!! But it really paid off because I kick some butt on all my tests and quiz. So instead of the usual riding lots of miles on the bike I rode the mountain bike for two hours on Saturday and went up to a cabin and chilled on the Grand Mesa. Wow 9200 feet or more the view was amazing and was so dam cold. I hiked up Powder Horn which is the ski RESORT 1 hr away from Grand Junction. I had 1620 feet in my legs at high elevation and it felt like I rode a century. I'm back at the school and the library all week to get ready go to interbike and get a bag full of SWAG(overflowing.) I'm going to do my first collegiate Mountain bike race This weekend I have to get three in to qualify for nationals. I Need to have a good weekend get my head back in the game. I'm not super excited but I haven't been on the start line in a few weeks. That is always a good way for me to gain some fitness back.

These pics are from The Grand Mesa.

Studying is putting a REAL damper on Riding

Well this is why school sucks!! I have two tests a quiz and a paper do this week, and I want to ride my bike too. I didn't get out yesterday which is like a big kick in the balls because it was a beautiful day and wasn't to hot. Today I have been on the go sense 650 am(early and it's to do school work and not to ride so it's a lot harder to get up). It's now 745 and I will not be done tell at least 10. I don't think the whole chalk bag thing was that bad after all, I had money and I didn't have to do anything with chalk bags if I didn't want to. I did make it out for two hours today and got a solid effort in at 337 watts for 40 mins I was feeling a little sluggish, oh the power tap is on(for all you non believers). I did pick up this hot girl too and got to ride this big down hill bike. I got my % of fat taken last week pretty lean I would say, 6.5 weighing in at 159. Well back to the Anatomy, have a test in there tomorrow needed a break from the Skeleton System.

I found a little of it today

Today was a lot better for me. My fitness is definitely better for Crits right now and I found some power on the road. I will be trying to change that around, with some longer ride and two a days when I can. The crit was an hour and I pretty much road the wave all the time. With 5 laps to go the race really started heating up. I was in bad position but I got myself right in the mix with two laps to go. I ended up getting 8th on the day. I felt really good about that sense my road race didn't turn out how I wanted it to go. But when is it ever good enough? I don't think this sport is really satisfying, because all you want is be better, faster, and have more wins under the belt.

Maybe I took a little to much rest

Well I thought the rest would be a good thing. I hurt me in more than one way, my knee was really bothering me when I wasn't riding and I lost my POWER. The Gateway challenge was yesterday and it rocked me. I felt good for the first 50 miles and then my legs went into self destruct mode. I got dropped big time. I lost my power. So if you see it let it know that I really need it, hopefully some buddy finds it before to long. I 'm hoping that my Power comes back today I have a Crit in down town Fruita. I think with these two hard days that the legs will find some of the power on the road and grab it up.

My thoughts well I have had my best season on the bike ever, so I can't be mad in how I ride now. I am ready to start lifting the weights so when the suns out, guns out motto can be used. I am going to be lifting the 10 and 20's It's about getting tone. I want to keep the upper arm that I can almost wrap my hand around, and maybe get it a little smaller. The legs I will be lifting the big weights and the small ones. I want to start my rampage, of getting ready for next year. I might race in a few weeks at the NRC Parker Omnium just to see if any of my Power can be found there. I know that there will be plenty of power in the peloton, maybe I can steal some from the guys that have to much power.

Question: What are some good lifts with weights that will transfer over to cycling? Please comment.

Note: if anyone wants to come down to the GJ let me know we can make space for you. It is beautiful.

Was it worth it

Today was my first real day back on the Bike. I prerode the road course for next weekend. It's going to be a really challageinng course. I also got to see the last yellow jersey that Lance Armstrong ever woar in the Tour de France. There was a solid group of us,8. One of the guys that was there was a past winner of Lotoja, 7:50. Well after the 88 miles. and 5 hours on the bike I could hardly move my knee. So I really don't think it was worth it. I'm going to swith my old pedals back that have so much float that my shoes comes out all the time, but it dosen't bother my knee. This ride was amazing, I'm glad I rode it before the race, and was able to see the amazing sights that it has to offer.

Update
It's Sunday Morning and my knee feels great!!! How I don't know but I am going to switch pedals and see if that is my problem. I mean my leg feels amazing, I didn't think I would be able to ride for a week.

WEEK 1

Wow Grand Junction is a great place for me! The first week of classes have gave me a small slap in the face, but better than a chalk bag in the back of the head. I would rather go to school than work for sure. I have met a lot of cool people and have met some people that are going to drive me crazy. I went to the cycling meeting on Wednesday night and had like 30 people show up to it. It was awesome to see that many people show up and be that excited about cycling. I have been off my bike sense last Monday, and I am ampped up to get out there and do some riding. Tomorrow I am going to pre-ride the Colorado state championship course, because I am going to win it. The course is 91 miles, an out and back with a hill 2000 foot climb in the middle. That's nothing!!! Then on Sunday depending on the knee I want to do a century of the valley around the GJ. So that shows you I am pumped back up, and ready to get back after it. I want to really win that national collegiate championship in the spring. Its going to be on like it's never happened before. I'm going to be a machine in the spring. The free bike is kicking some ass around the campus, i'm showwing those girls I got skills like peddling skills, track stand skill and so on.... they dig it!!!!

School I don't know if this was such a good idea

Well the last day of freedom is here. I start school tomorrow at 11, early I know. It will drive me crazy by the time school starts. The dorms are going to be a crazy time for sure, with all of the young one being free for the first time. Last night I went to a party that had more hot girl than all of Pocatello. I think I really like this place. I have been off the bike for a 6 days letting my knee get some rest. I have been fighting some knee pains all summer and now I the rest hopefully will take care of that but the pain has been getting worse.

Free Stuff
Last night before the party, my roommates and myself went to casino night. They gave us two hundred dollars of play money. With the money you won they had an auction at the end of the night. They had a bike from coke a cola, and the roommates and myself where all wanting the bike for commuting to the cafeteria. I was the man on the roulette table. I was up 900 dollars, then.... well then I was down to twenty dollars kinda of a slump. But got back to 500 dollars and ended up betting big and getting up to 2000 dollars. The roommates ended up getting a lot of money and then got some donations from other people that, rounded our total to a 60000 dollars but we got a donation of 27000 from a girl that I gave good luck to at the roulette table. We got the bike. It's like I'm pro because now I'm getting free bikes. Maybe school is a good idea!!

Last Race in Idaho this year

First off, I want to say that Boise is an awesome city!!!! Justin Rose and myself stayed at a house, 2 blocks away from the start finish line. I also have to thank Justin's GIRL BUDDY (wink wink)for hooking us up with that, she was house sitting. That worked out great for us bum bike racers trying to make to the big times. If you are ever in Boise and want to get a bite to eat well the Lucky 13, on 13th street and Eastmon. It was a great atmosphere and great people watching, got to love doing that.

Bike racing!!!!!!
The Cycling Classic was a 91 mile road race with 8000 feet of elevation gain. This course was great, it started with five neutral laps through the Hyde Park area. Then we rode out to the main circuit, that was 18 miles per lap. In the 18 miles there was 4 climbs. On the first lap there was a solo attack my Calvin Allen who is an animal. He just got done doing the Tour of Utah a six day race with the best Pro's in the USA, the best and he placed in the top 40. Well later on that lap a group of three attacked and I chased on to that group. We then caught Allen two climbs later and had a group of 5 of us, all from different teams. This was looking really good for this group, all the main team represented. Going down the last decent of the first lap the Hyde Park rider flatted. That really didn't make things good for the break, because Hype Park had eight riders in the race. Oh shit. The four left in the group decided to keep it going. On the next lap we dropped another rider. For the next two laps it was three of us driving it going for the win, our gap was up to 2:51 which was huge on that course. On the KOM(king of the mountain which was 14% for a 100 meters OUCH) climb we dropped another rider, so Allen and myself off the front. We started rolling over the climbs and started the last lap. On the flats I got dropped, I cramped and I was done. Allen saw the gap and started driving it. I was so toast. I stayed away for the chase aka the peloton which was 5 tell the top of the first climb. I stayed with them tell the KOM climb then the legs buckled again. I then gave it all I had left. I had set up Rose, he was in the group of 5. He was fresh because he didn't have to be on the front at all, at any part of the day. Rose out sprinted Matt W. from Hyde Park for second. I got caught by another rider and he out sprinted me in the last K. I ended up 8th. Not to bad for not riding anything long for over a month. My fitness is really for crits right now. Congrats to JUSTIN ROSE for being a bad ass and riding smart. I'm beat, hopefully to see a lot of you tomorrow for some beers.

Stu is getting out of the P-Town

On Monday the 14th of August we are meeting at Portneut Valley Brewing at 7pm. This will be most likely the last time I will see a lot of you for a while, so you should come down and by round. After all I'm a broke college student now. If you didn't know I'm moving to Grand Junction, CO to get a degree and not sew chalk bags anymore(ha ha, I can sew). That was fun and I'm sure Sam will be sending me his credit card at Christmas, for gas money. A little bribe to get me back to p- town because he will be out of bags and need someone to do the work for him. Sam it's only the truth.
The race this weekend is the Boise cycling classic. A 95 mile road race with full road closure. I will be attacking on the other side of the road like I was racing in New Zealand. This will be my last race in Idaho this year besides the Scout Mt. Hill climb which my body is going hate me for. Hopefully some of you can cheer ICE on, this weekend in Boise. I will be eating a burger and drinking a dark beer maybe even two beers.

Most of all I would like to see you all there on Monday with TWO BEERS IN HAND OR A PITCHER.

Epic day

With the most epic day of racing in front of me, and I was so excited. Today I was driving to Mackay Idaho an hour and a half north of Pocatello. The White Knob Challenge is a 9 mile up hill 9 mile down hill mostly on four wheeler road. I was ready to win the White Knob Challenge. I planned on going off with the proÂ’s but there was only four of them so went off with the Expert group one minute behind them. From the get go all I can think about is catching those guys. Three miles into the race I have caught three of the proÂ’s and there is no expert in sight. I was chasing hard to get that last pro. I crested the hill second over. Started the ripping decent rolling like a mad man. I was glad that I practiced a little downhill skills earlier in the week.. But I double flatted not once but twice $@#!.
The day was over for the mountain bike. I got a ride down the mountain on a four wheeler holding my bike on my lap. I get to the car and a quick change of clothes and put the bike on car and on the road..
Now my Dad was driving me to Logan, UT to do a Crit. Yes that night, only five hours tell the next start. The drive took us right through Pocatello. Getting into Logan I have an hour and a half to start. While warming up with Rose who was just doing the Crit I flatted and didn't bring my spare wheels. So now IÂ’m looking for a wheel that I can barrow. The Logan Race Club Hooked me up with one of there Reynolds carbon deep dish wheels. Then I forgot to but on the ten speed spacer so it gave the wheels drag on the free hub body. Then some how my cassette got twisted on the free hub body and we had to twist it back into the right groves. Ten speed spacer on sweet. Now we canÂ’t get the cassette to go on right. With four tries and the race promoter hold up the race for me IÂ’m still having some shifting problems but IÂ’m on the start line with no warm up because of the mechanical.
The race starts and I get as close to the front as possible. This way itÂ’s easier on my legs to warm up. Next thing I know IÂ’m in a break of four and my legs are not feeling good at all. The break got back then a new group got off and Healthy Choice(Logan Race ClubÂ’s Elite team) had eight riders and they kept on sending riders. The break was only a little ways in front of us. So I attacked in the gutter and that didnÂ’t work but the next time around J Rose attacked. It was like we where racing at the Holt Arena on a Tuesday night. That attacked got brought then I attacked the next lap. I was getting so close to the break and my legs BLEW UP. The field caught me and then dropped me. I waited up to get lapped and then help J Rose again. When I got back in, I jumped in right in front of Rose to block wind for him. He Attacked again and got a gap I went to the front and was slowing down the field looking like I was taking my turn on the front. After a few laps of that Rose had a huge gap. I then had a few words with a Cole Sport rider(wanker, a.k.a. Old man river) which made my day because I pissed him off so much. J rose ended up fifth on the day and rode a for a long time by himself because Healthy Choice riders took it to him. HE HAD A GREAT RIDE.
A special thanks goes out to the Dick from Cole Sports for making a day of miss haps, a great day.

Race day

Today is the Pocatello old town Crit. I go off at 3:20 this afternoon and will be racing for rent money so it's going to be a very aggressive day. I don't even know the course, so I will be going down there on my bike checking out the course to do the pre ride. It's kind of like how lance did it scout out the course but months in advance instead of hours. I will be fresher than everyone there today so the ball is in my court. All the other racers did the 100 mile Road race yesterday. I rode 15 miles and sat in a car for six hours driving back from Grand Junction. I will be moving there in 3 weeks time so I am really excited. If I don't have a good day on the bike I might be selling some stuff for rent money so stop by and you might get a great deal on something.

Out horse powered. It was the ideal situation for ICE having 6 riders at the start of the race. The only thing was that 2 had already done 2 races in the morning so they didn't have the horse power. That left Dave Rose, Sam and myself. With the race being so fast and undecided groups would go up the road and then they would come right back because they were not the right formula to make the cake. Then a group of 5 went up the road 2 ICE 2 Logan racers and another rider. I knew this was a good mix of riders because the field sat up. Then I knew I had to get into that break. I attacked the field and started my chase of the leaders. With 5 laps of chasing I got on right as Kline feel off the back of the lead group so the team numbers stayed the same. ICE and Logan started attacking each other to drop the rider with no team mates so he had to close all the gaps down. With the leaders lapping the field the pace of the field got a lot faster. The teams started to play games again, with 5 laps to go a Logan racer attacked and put it into hyper drive. He just rolled away from us. Sam was sitting on the front killing himself to bring it back for me so I could win the sprint. The gap got bigger and bigger. Racing for 2nd Sam gave it all he had and I gave it all I had, I got picked at the line 3rd, Sam 4th. Just didn't have the horse power like the Logan racers. But got some money for rent which is great.
Some Really good Pics that Craig Worth took at the Crit that he is saleing. Alot of great pics of the 1-2 but some of the 4 race too.

Education What??

I know I know, well acutely I don't know that's why I'm checking out Mesa State College. I would be on the Cycling team. I would be looking at getting a degree in Nursing or a Rad tech. I did a ride yesterday, that climbed up on to mesa and down the monument. It was a great climb that had some real steep pitches and a lot of flat sections too. The decent was fast and I flatted and almost killed myself going around a corner on a wishy washy front tire. But I did keep it up right and took the rest of the decent at a normal speed. I like the campus it's small but that's fine with me. The town kind of reminds me of the p-town. Juntction has a lot more restaurants and it just seems like a great place to get and education. The ladies that I have seen in Junction are pretty hot. So that's good enough for me!!!

Today I went on the fruit loop ride. We went out through all of the fruit orchards and down trough the vinards. It was a great ride one I will be doing alot of. I also tried to get some"must be 21 girl fruit loops"(i have never seen this eating style, for fruit loops that is). I found that pic while looking for the fruit loop box.

Twilight Crit Boise, ID

Well Rose and myself arrived on Friday afternoon to just hang out and meet up with my older sister. With Friday off the bike completely we got some good rest in our legs. Saturday morning me and Rose hit the streets of Boise on the bike for an easy 1hr spin. With10 hrs to go before we even started warming up for the race we did a lot of sitting around and drinking tones of fluids. It only reached a 107 on Saturday so we were lucky that we got to start at 830 pm. We hit the road 1 1/2 before the race started so we could get a really good warm up.

I have not been that nervous before a race in a few years, it was actually scary. I was afraid that I was going to suck and have everyone (5000 specter's) looking at me when I got dropped. Well the gun went off and all of the nerves went out the door. I did what I do, bike race. I was holding on for dear life the first 20 laps (each lap is 1k) thinking I only have 60 more to go. At this point I was pretty much set on making it half way and being happy with that. When I got to half way I was thinking to myself I might have twenty more laps in me with. By this time in the race it's night time and the back straight away is black and the front straight has construction lights lighting up the street. So your pupils are going through a consistent change. With only twenty more laps to go I knew that I could finish the race and could start being a little aggressive. I was just following wheels but still made it off the front of the group of riders but there was still a group of 4 up the road. Being on the front of that was 100 times harder than sitting in the group. With 5 laps to go it really started to pick up momentum again. The field was again strung out. 2 laps to go and the crowd at the start finish line explodes with cheers. 1 lap to go I get chills riding by start finish line. I move up a few places in back straight away and go through the last two corners and start the sprint. I pass a few more and finished it. I have not seen the results yet but heard 15th but I don't know for sure. Oh rose and me didn't scare Toyota United, they won it.

The after party we stayed out tell 4 am drinking and dancing. Always the best things for the legs.
Sunday the family and friends went and floated the Boise river. The water was so cold but it made the 105 degree weather feel like nothing. Overall it was a great weekend and can't wait to do it next year. Thanks Jess for the Awesome Pictures!!!
