Mesa Crit # 2

Today is the second Mesa crit, and my fifth day on with intensity in my legs. I'm trying to get my legs ready for the Gila in May. The team is going out on the TT bikes before the crit and going to practice rocking the Team Time Trial. Then a half hour later going to get my crit on. I'm going to be rocking the new BOB's bibs that I got(Cadillac quality)!! I wrecked on Monday too, I was riding through an intersection and hit the gravel right in the middle while turning and BAM down on my hip. Luckily I did not get ran over!!! I would of laughed my ass off if I would of saw it, but it wasn't to funny to me. The Jelly Belly shorts have new ventilation holes on the left side now. Oh Pink Bar tape, WHY NOT!!!! The first race in New Mexico people made fun of it, now I have seen a couple bikes with it on from other teams. MESA trend setters. College Algebra sucks if anybody wanted to know

CU, Boulder

Well Mesa had an awesome weekend!!! The weekend started with the TT then a Crit and on Sunday was the Circuit race. The TT course was very challenging with big rollers that was a little over 10 miles. I felt like the power was gone. I was slowly bring back my 30 sec man but not nearly as fast I wanted to. I got done and thought that I had the worst ride on my bike ever, just didn't feel good about my ride. Well I didn't ride so poorly after all, I got 2nd 4 sec behind Troy Wells a pro that road for TIAA-CREF last year. Not to bad!!!

The crit was and very technical course with pot holes and craziness. I got 2 point primes early in the race. The race was sending people left and right from CU and FLC. Those two schools really battled against each other putting there guys on the front to shut down breaks that where going up the road. In the last lap I got boxed in and really had a hard time moving up. I got sixth and second in the DII. One of CU riders, Brad Bingham is an animal, that kid knows how to suffer on the front to lead out his teammates. He's a real team player props to him.
Circuit race was hard from the start. My legs didn't feel to hot. Mesa got a rider in the break on the 3rd lap and the TOOL and myself sat on the front and slowed the field down. I was able to sit in and stay out of the wind which was nice. I tried to git up the road with a lap to go but nothing, I tried really but nothing affective. I ended up sprinting in the field and went to early and got housed at the end. NOT MY BEST PERFORMANCE!!!!
I found out that Mesa riders are 1,2 in DII I got 313 points and Mitch is 198 points. Mesa is also #1 in the conference for points too.
Major Props to Justin Rose for his first Win of the season!!!! Team Bobs-Bicycles.Com

Mesa Crit #1 Power

Mesa State Cycling puts on a weekly Crit practically on campus. The legs are felt a little shot all week. I had a bad work out on Tuesday and then road my tt bike for two hours yesterday morning and legs didn't feel any better. Last night was a different story, I had great legs some how. I think I have been a little dehydrated the last few days. In the Crit I took the responsibility on making the first move. 2 riders came across the gap taking 1 lap pulls that took about 55sec. One dropped off our wheels. I couldn't wait to attack this other rider, he has been talking so big this year, that you would think he just got signed to Discovery. He's saying how he's going to be a cat 1 in one season and how his VO2max is huge(whatever), oh by the way he is a cat 5. Well when it said 30 min on my Power-tap computer, It was time to crush. I attacked into the headwind section of the course so I could get a gap into the tailwind and start to open up a real gap on our Discovery rider. I did about 10 laps Solo really laying it out there. It feels good to end the week of training on a high note and now it's time to rest and get the legs ready for CU this weekend!!!

I also got a little write up on USA cycling!!! Check that story out, pretty cool!!!

Metro/DU

Metro put on a ITT in Beaver Creek State Park on Saturday. The course was very challenging with lots of turns and hills. I caught three guys in front of me including the DI Rocky mountain conference Champion on the mountain bike. It was my turn to kick some ass. I ended getting first in DII and 2nd overall. I was on the results as 1st but a kid from CU missed his start time or something, so they let him go in the USCF cat's and he edged me out by 1 sec. BULL SHIT, oh well it's only the Metro ITT and not nationals. Plus I still got the prize for first.

I also met up with my coach on Saturday and went out to lunch and talked about how we are going to get me ready for Gila and nationals. It was good to catch up with Jonathan!! I haven't seen him for 4-5 months. I will be flying at nationals if all goes well and nothing gets in the way.

DU put on a crit around Invesco Field(Bronco Stadium). It was a fast and furious, so fast that nothing was staying away. The horse was full on, lots of attacks and 6 point primes that went 4 deep to keep it moving. I felt really good and new that the field was moving at a rate that no one was riding off the front of this field. I road smart and got 13 points in primes 5 out of 6 primes, the next closest was 8. The Team road awesome there was a few times after primes when I was stuffed and attacks were going off the front and they covered them. GOOD WORK MESA!! I really had to fight for position in the last lap with the CU train driving the field to the finish. I got in the mix and sprinted for 4th. That was another win for DII, I also jumped in the PRO ½ crit a few hours later. One of Denver's Elite teams show up and controlled the race all day. A group of three went up the road and I saw it go and was thinking shit that might be the move. The racing in the field was real negative the elite team chasing everything down and blocking everything. Oh well! I got behind there train in the last lap and got 2nd in the field sprint and 5th overall. Not to bad of a weekend!!

Now I'm on the spring break and staying in GJ and taking life easy. It's nice not going from 7 in the morning tell 9 at night!!

Desert Storm

Today Mesa dropped the bomb. First off was the ITT and later in the day was a TTT. I went off with the USCF because they forgot to put my number in with the Collegiate riders. You would think that 140 141 143 that maybe there would be a 142 but not in New Mexico, it fits in with the teens. I felt really good in the ITT. I didn't have a 30 sec person to chase which sucked but the USCF riders that I had to chase had the group ride legs on and not the race legs I caught 10 riders. I felt good but I don't know how I did compared to the rest of the collegiate riders. The TTT went really well for my first TTT. We stayed all together and kept it rolling I think we had a good ride but don't know how we did comparative to the other schools. Tomorrow is two Crits one Collegiate and another USCF after that. I feel good I have to give my coach a huge thanks for keeping so busy on the bike this winter and suffering day in and day out.

I got 9th in the men's ITT with no aero gear, I was second in the Men's D II. . We rode a brilliant TTT, we started with 4 riders and I thought we would come home with 3 losing one. We went off and took all really good pulls I took longer pulls that way letting everyone else get more rest. Kevin M. took a massive pull to the top of a hill that was located right before the turn around. Then I took the big pull into the turn around then Mitch took a strong pull out of turn getting up back up to speed. Conor took the pull to the top of the hill, then starting the rotation again. We started making the pulls shorter and harder on the way back in allowing the speed to stay as high as possible. In the Team Time Trial Mesa got 3rd behind a CU and FLC team. We did beat two FLC and CU teams, and was the 1st D II team

When Mesa drops the bombs it's full on and we don't do it half ass. Today was a Collegiate and a USCF pro 1,2,3 Crit. So from the gun CU launched one of there riders off the front. The field was keeping him on a short leash. They called a prime for the field with getting my self in the right position for the prime I went for it and one the prime and kept on rolling right up to the CU rider. We worked together and shared the pulls, working well together. With about 4 laps to go a group of CU riders and FLC made it up to us. I knew at this point I was out numbered big time. I covered one attack from a FLC rider and then got back in the middle of the break getting myself in good position. Charging towards the finish I got took 5th in the sprint.

USCF Crit my legs felt pretty heavy and the plan was to just sit in for a good workout. Something must have been in the air because a guy in this field went early. With another field prime I wanted to get in good position to go for the sprint. Like the first Crit I won the Prime and charged towards the break away. Taking pulls with this guy I knew I was out powered I took short pulls and gave it all I had, With a few laps later a group of 5 came across. I was stocked my legs could get some rest now. I let the teams attack one another time and time again. With 5 laps to go my legs could really feel the load in them and was getting hard for me to stay on the wheel in front of me out of every corner. The attacks stopped with one to go with all the breakaway together. The group sat up waiting for someone to take the pull. I'm looking at the field charging on us when and attack for the New Mexico Colavita team(tools), I dug deep to stay on the wheels in front of me I got into 3rd wheel back. When we came out of the last corner and gave it all I had feeling pain, 2nd! Not bad for spending two Crits off the front for majority of the time.
